A man has died as a result of injuries from a crash that occurred Thursday, Feb. 27 around 8:50 p.m. Detectives from Crash Reconstruction Unit have preliminarily determined that Leonard Mathey Jr., 33, of Fairfax, was crossing Monument Drive near Monument Court. The driver of a 2008 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound on Monument Drive and struck the man, who was not in a crosswalk. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with detectives. The man was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver. Detectives have not yet determined if alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.
